After the week was punctuated by the first of many European matchdays for the first time this season with the commencement of the group stages of Europe’s club competitions, domestic football is set to resume in the English Premier League with some interesting matches set to take place on Matchday Five.
Here is our preview and tips from our in-house experts;
- Newcastle United vs Leeds United: Two of the early season strugglers will lock horns at St James’ Park when the Magpies host Leeds United. Sitting in 19th and 17th respectively, both sides have failed to win a single match so far this season. Each side will be looking to kick off its season here with a win.
Newcastle win- 2.90 odds; Leeds win- 2.25 odds; Draw- 3.50 odds.
- Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford: Newly-promoted Brentford will travel to the Black Country to take on Wolves. The home side finally scored in and won their first match last weekend against another newly-promoted side Watford. Brentford have struggled since their miraculous win against Arsenal on the opening matchday.
Wolves win- 1.90 odds; Brentford win- 4.55 odds; Draw- 3.15 odds.
- Burnley vs Arsenal: Arsenal will travel to take on Burnley on the back of a hard-earned win over Norwich last time out for the Gunners. Burnley are yet to win a single game this season in the league and find themselves in relegation trouble early on. Arsenal have won only once and now sit in 16th on the log.
Burnley win- 3.75 odds; Arsenal win- 2.00 odds; Draw- 3.30 odds.
- Liverpool vs Crystal Palace: Patrick Vieira’s men travel to the most difficult ground in the division to take on a Liverpool side that is looking unstoppable. The Reds have only drawn once in all competitions this season, and have not lost in any of their last 15 competitive matches.
Liverpool win- 1.21 odds; Palace win- 13.00 odds; Draw- 6.75 odds.
- Manchester City vs Southampton: Champions Manchester City play host to Southampton at the Etihad Stadium in their English Premier League matchday five encounter. The Cityzens have been brilliant since their opening day loss to Tottenham and have won every match since then in all competitions. Southampton have struggled this season and are yet to truly find their feet.
Manchester City win- 1.15 odds; Southampton win- 16.00 odds; Draw- 8.50 odds.
- Norwich vs Watford: Two newly-promoted sides take on each other after their exploits in the Championship last season. Norwich find themselves at the bottom of the league, having lost all of their opening four matches. They will be looking to take points off their fellow newly-promoted side in this one.
Norwich win- 2.20 odds; Watford win- 3.25 odds; Draw- 3.30 odds.
- Aston Villa vs Everton: After going through their first four games unbeaten, Rafael Benitez’s side will face a much sterner test than they have faced so far when they travel to Villa Park to take on an Aston Villa side that feels hard done by their defeat at the hands of Chelsea last time. They will look to return to winning ways at home to the Toffees.
Villa win- 2.40 odds; Everton win- 2.90 odds; Draw- 3.25 odds.
- Brighton vs Leicester City: After starting the season so well, Brighton and Hove Albion will be looking to keep up with the teams at the top end of the table. Leicester City have struggled more than they would have liked so far this season and would be looking to put together a string of good performances and gain a foothold in the league.
Brighton win- 2.65 odds; Leicester win- 2.70 odds; Draw- 3.10 odds.
- West Ham vs Manchester United: Table-topping Manchester United will take newly returned Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo with them to the London Stadium to face a West Ham side that would be without its top scorer after his red card in the dying minutes of their last match. Both sides are yet to lose domestically this season, but that can change on Sunday when they do battle.
West Ham win- 4.10 odds; Man Utd win- 1.76 odds; Draw- 3.80 odds.
- Tottenham vs Chelsea: Chelsea travel to the Tottenham Stadium in what is arguably the biggest match of the round. The Blues have looked very good in their opening three matches this season, and they would surely look to improve on their record so far. Tottenham fell limply to a disastrous 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace last time out, but will look to rectify the result as a mere blip.
