The Portuguese super star scored a penalty brace to hand Juventus a 3-1 win at Genoa. The goals increased Cristiano Ronaldo tally to 79 goals, 19 assists a total of 98 contributions in 100 games.
4. Lee Westwood claiming third race to Dubai
Lee Westwood claimed a third Race to Dubai title after an extraordinary finish to the European Tour season at the DP World Tour Championship.
Matthew Fitzpatrick won the event on 15 under but Englishman Westwood took the season-long title after Laurie Canter double bogeyed the par-three 17th.
Canter’s error lifted Westwood, 47, into second place on his own.
That was enough to pip Fitzpatrick and Patrick Reed, who led the standings at the start of the week, but ended third.
3. Max Verstappen beating Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas to Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
It was an eventful ending for Max Verstappen who claimed the season ending grand prix at Abu Dhabi.
Pole-sitter Verstappen led every round to take the chequered flag 15.9 seconds clear of Valtteri Bottas, with Lewis Hamilton completing the podium.
At the end of the 17-race season, Lewis Hamilton finished a top of the drivers table with 347 points, 11 wins and 14 podium finishes.
His teammate, Valtteri Bottas, finished second with 223 points, 2 wins and 11 podium finishes with the season ending winner Max Verstappen completing the top three with a point total of 214 from 2 wins and 11 podium finishes.
Mercedes again expectedly won the constructors’ championship with 573 points from 13 wins and 25 podium places, Red Bull finished second with 319 points, 2 wins and podium finishes.
McLaren took third in the constructors’ championship – their best result since Hamilton left the British team for Mercedes in 2013 – after Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz finished fifth and sixth.
With a point total of 202 and two podium places with zero wins they pipped Racing point who had 1 win and 4 podium places to accrue just 195 points.
2. NBA Pre-season ahead of December start date
With as many as 9 Nigerian-born players amongst those who were recently drafted to the NBA teams, the NBA popularity has increased in Nigeria.
Clubs started pre-season games ahead of the December 23rd start that with top players who have been out for months returning to the court after days on the surgery table.
Former teammates, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant who missed the 2019/20 season through different injuries were in action for the franchises.
Stephen Curry played for just 21 minutes in Golden State Warriors 107-105 win against the 2019/20 Western Conference finalists, Denver Nuggets.
Zeke Nnaji was also played some minutes for Denver Nuggets.
Kevin Durant was also in action for the Brooklyn Nets as they beat Washington Wizards 119-114 on Saturday.
1. Anthony Joshua retains his heavyweight titles
Anthony Joshua retained his heavyweight titles after knocking out Kubrat Pulev in round 9 in Wembley on Sunday.
Joshua was by far the better boxer of the two as he punched the tough talking Pulev all over the ring.
AJ handed the Bulgarian three different knock-downs before finally completing the job in the 9th round.
With the the win, Anthony Joshua retains four of the five heavyweight titles; the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles.
Joshua has improved his career stats to 24-1 with 22 KOs.
