Top 5 list of football teammates who had a rift

“Football is a beautiful game”, the saying goes. But the beauty in it gets turned off a-times, and sees emotions come in to becloud it.

Not emotions on the part of the fans only, but emotions of the actual actors, the players who play the game right on the pitch.

Players tempers flare sometimes, and a bust up gets to happen.

The most recent one was when Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku had a face off of words and heads in the Milan Derby on Tuesday night.

This was a clash of opponents, but the beautiful game has produced fights of teammates who play for same club

Here’s our top 5 list of teammates, who had a rift

    5. Lee Bowyer & Kieron Dyer

This arguably should be the greatest of all rifts between teammates.

It was Newcastle vs Aston Villa in 2005, and a scuffle that saw both players red carded forcing Newcastle to end the game with nine men.

They continued down the tunnel, but were separated by two club masseurs.

  1. Hugo Lloris & Hueng Min Son

Tottenham Hotspur earned a 1 nil win over Everton in July 2020, but the talking point of the game came at Half Time.

Hugo Lloris wasn’t happy with Heung Min Son for not tracking back and it made Lloris confront Son.

The pair had to be separated by team-mates Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks, although they eventually embraced each other at full-time.

Instead of criticising his players, manager Jose Mourinho said that the incident was “beautiful”.

  1. Jermaine Beckford & Eoin Doyle

The Preston Team were chasing a late equaliser against 10-man Sheffield Wednesday  and Beckford took exception to Doyle’s refusal to pass him the ball.

The rift had both men sent off as Preston lost 2-1. Both players were issued fine, and Supporter who travelled to Hillsborough had their tickets refunded from the fine the players paid.

  1. Ricardo Fuller & Andy Griffin

Ricardo Fuller was unable to keep his emotions in check, as he slapped his club [Stoke City] captain, Andy Griffin after West Ham scored an equaliser.

Fuller was furious that Griffin’s error made them concede and ran straight to Griffin to give him a slap, not minding the referee was just two feet away, and this made the official send him off from the game.

  1. Raheem Sterling & Joe Gomez

The two English men got involved in a bust up in the game between Liverpool & Manchester City at Anfield which the reds won 3-1 to the delight of football betting fans.

The bust up didn’t end there as they did confront each other in the England team training.

Accoridng to Sky, Sterling asked Gomez, “You think you’re the big man now?” and grabbed the 22-year-old by his neck, and it took other players to intervene to douse the tension.

The manager, Gareth Southgate didn’t take this well as he took a huge decision not to use Sterling in their upcoming match.
