Review of African stars abroad: The negatives and positives from last weekend

Last weekend say different leagues take place and surely, quite a lot of African players had time to slug it out for their club against their counterpart.

Netbet Nigeria took time to review some of the African players in Europe this weekend.

Yassine Bounou (Sevilla)

Despite Sevilla’s 2-0 win at Eibar on Saturday, it wasn’t an easy one for the Spanish outfit

Though, Julen Lopetegui’s side were favourites to secure all three points largely to the form of Youssef En-Nesyri in the last few weeks, but it was all thanks to Bono as the Morocco goalkeeper outshone his compatriot this weekend, making a stunning six saves against a relegation-threatened Eiber that took the game to the visitors, out-shooting them 17-7.

Bono, however, had other ideas and his dependability helped his teammates to a win that puts them one point behind Real Madrid, who suffered a shock 2-1 loss at home to Levante.

Terem Moffi (Lorient, France)

Terem Moffi’s late goal saw FC Lorient secure all three points as Paris Saint-Germain records first defeat under their new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

The Nigerian striker who is probably one of the most inform striker in the French Ligue 1 came on as a substitute in the 61st minute and ensured Lorient secured a 3-2 win against PSG at the Stade du Moustoir on Sunday.

The goal was Terem Moffi’s 5th in the last five games making it a goal each in his last five league games.

This particular match was a spoiler for most fans who love betting on football.

Mohammed Salah (Liverpool, England)

Liverpool took all 3 points after a very sluggish first half to deservedly beat West Ham United 3-1 at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Despite Sadio Mane’s absence, Salah came up trumps to hit a brace, thus ending a six-game drought in the league without scoring.

He took both goals well, but the second was a thing of beauty to coolly finish after an amazingly fast Reds counter.

The forward has now hit 21 goals in total this season, becoming the first Liverpool player since Ian Rush to score 20 goals or more in four successive campaigns – the Reds legend went on to hit 20 strikes or more in six seasons from 1981/82 to 1986/87.

The win means Liverpool are now third on the log.

Netbet Rating: 7.5/10

Musa Barrow (Bologna, Italy)

Musa Barrow’s Bologna lost 2-1 defeat by AC Milan on Saturday, a result that leaves them five points ahead of the bottom three.

The forward had little luck finding a man whenever he drifted out wide and came out second-best in all but one of his 12 duels.

The side from Emilia-Romagna have lost three of their last five games in the league.

Netbet Rating: 4/10

Mbwana Samatta (Fernabahce, Turkey)

Despite not finding the net in Fenerbahce’s 1-0 win over Rizespor, Samatta had a good game within the duration of the match at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

The Tanzania superstar created two chances, completed all three attempted dribbles as well as winning eight of nine tussles until his withdrawal in the final minute of regulation time.

Besiktas’ defeat by Trabzonspor on Sunday means Fenerbahce have overtaken their bitter rivals after gameweek 21, although there’s still a long way to go in the Super Lig. Before the winner can be decided

Netbet Rating: 6.8/10

Asisat Oshoala (Barcelona Femino, Spain)

Asisat Oshoala scored a brace in Barcelona 4-1 El Clasico win against Real Madrid on Sunday.

The former Arsenal forward scored the third and fourth goals respectively as Barcelona Femino marched into an easy 4-1 win.

She made her goals looked so easy after tapping home from close range for both goals.

The goals now means Asisat has scored 13 goals in as many as 13 league games.

Netbet Rating: 8/10

Bertrand Traore (Aston Villa, England)
While Aston Villa defeated Southampton 1-0 away from home, it was one of Traore’s nightmare for the West Midlands side

He barely turned, getting only 34 touches, failed to complete any of his two attempted dribbles and lost six of nine total duels.

Dean Smith’s side moved to ninth in the Premier League and could go higher if they win either or both games in hand.
