After the conclusion of the fourth round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the international break for European countries, the countries and their managers are looking forward to matchday five in their respective groups.
Matchday five will see a number of exciting clashes on Saturday September 4th and Sunday September 5th. Here is a preview of a few of those matches and tips from our in-house experts;
Faroe Islands vs Denmark: Denmark would be licking their lips ahead of what is considered by many in European football to be a certain three points when they face a Faroe Islands side that is 103 places below them in the FIFA rankings in their Group F clash.
Both sides had contrasting fortunes on matchday four as Denmark defeated Scotland 2-0 and Faroe Islands lost to Israel 4-0. Denmark currently sit atop Group F with 12 points from four matches, while their opponents have only picked one point in the qualifiers so far.
The Danes are favourites to pick up the win and have been given 1.11 odds of emerging with maximum points, and their opponents have been given 18.00 odds of winning. A draw between the sides has been set at 11.00 odds.
Netherlands vs Montenegro: After both sides played out draws on matchday four in Group G, they will now do battle against each other in a winner takes all contest.
Both sides are locked on the same number of points after four games, having each amassed seven points from their four matches so far.
Netherlands are clear favourites for the win and have been given 1.17 odds of winning the match. Montenegro have been given 14.00 odds of winning, and a draw has been set at 8.25 odds.
Spain vs Georgia: La Roja will be looking to bounce back from a shock 2-1 defeat to Sweden when they host Georgia in their matchday five encounter in Group B.
Spain have picked up seven points so far, and find themselves in second place in the group. Georgia, on the other hand, have picked up only one point so far and are in fifth place on the log.
They lost their last match against Kosovo 1-0. Spain are favourites for the win and have been given 1.11 odds of emerging with maximum points. Georgia have been given 18.00 odds of emerging with all three points, and a draw has been set at 11.00 odds.
Switzerland vs Italy: It’s a top of the table clash in Group C as leaders Italy, who have 10 points from four matches will take on a Switzerland side that has picked up maximum points from their two previous matches.
An added incentive for the Azzurri would be the possibility of creating a record international unbeaten run, having equalled the former record of 35 matches unbeaten in their 1-1 draw against Bulgaria.
The match promises to be a tight contest, and Italy have been given 2.00 odds of picking up a win here. Switzerland have been given 3.60 odds, a smaller a draw has been set at 3.45 odds.
Belgium vs Czech Repuublic: After each winning against Estonia and Belarus, respectively, Belgium and Czech Republic will lock horns in Group E in a battle between first and second.
While Belgium have picked up 10 points from their four matches so far, Czech Republic have managed seven. The Red Devils look like they can go on to pick up maximum points and have been given 1.40 odds, with a draw set at 4.70 odds. A win for Czech Republic has been pegged at 7.00 odds.
