Onuachu, Sadiq, and Mikel headline list of top Nigerian performers in Europe for last weekend

There were many Super Eagles or Nigerian-born players in action over the weekend but Kevin Akpoguma, Paul Onuachu, Victor Osimhen, John Obi Mikel and Sadiq Umar topped the list of those with great performance over the weekend and on Monday.

The likes of Semi Ajayi, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho also had a great outing while Eze Eberechi, and Josh Maja didn’t have the best of outing.

Netbet Nigeria looks at some of the players in action and how they performed for their different teams.

Paul Onuachu

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored another brace to help Genk to a 2-2 draw against Oostende in a Belgian top flight game on Monday.

He is now the joint top scorer in Belgian pro league having scored a total of 6 goals in 6 games. Paul Onuachu has also scored back-to-back braces in his last two games.

Umar Sadiq (Partizan Belgrade, Serbia)

His team didn’t play over the weekend but they were in action on Monday night as his team – Partizan Belgrade hosted 16th place Backa.

Sadiq scored the opener 5 minutes into the second half and saw his team won by 2 goals to 1 to maintain their second spot in the league.

Kevin Akpoguma (Hoffenheim, Germany)

Kevin was in action as Hoffenheim stunned Bundesliga and Champions League holders Bayern Munich 4-1 in Sunday’s Bundesliga game.

The wingback was in action all 90 minutes as Die Kraichgauer nflicted Bayern with their first defeat since they lost 2-1 to Monchengladbach in December 2019.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli, Italy)

Victor Osimhen made his full competitive debut for Napoli as they demolished Genoa 6-0 at the Stadio San Paolo in Naples on Sunday evening.

The Super Eagle came close to breaking the deadlock as early as the sixth minute before he saw his effort saved by goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

In the 46th minute, he provided the assist to the second goals that saw Zielinski scores his first goal of the season.

He’d be looking forward to score his first goal for the Italian side this weekend as they face Juventus.

John Obi Mikel (Stoke City, England)

All thanks to John Mikel Obi as he created the assist and goal from Lee Gregory that saw the Potters win 1-0 in their Championship game against Preston North End.

For John Obi Mikel it was yet another great day at the office, he won 3/6 of his duels, 64 touches, and completed 45 of his 50 attempted passes. Looked like the former Super Eagles players had a beautiful afternoon.

Stoke City sit 15th on the Championship log with 4 points from three games and Mikel Obi has played in all three games they’ve played this season.

Alex Iwobi (Everton, England)

Despite finding the back of the net and assisting a goal in Everton’s league cup win against Fleetwood Town in the midweek, Alex Iwobi only played from the bench on Saturday.

The former Arsenal man came in as a late substitute in the 86th minute replacing James Rodriguez as Everton secured a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.

Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England)

Super Eagles Kelechi Iheanacho made his first Premier League appearance of the season after replacing Vardy as he came on as a late substitute while his team thumped Manchester City by 5 goals to 2 at the Etihad

The win took Leicester to top in the league table on nine points after winning their first three games of the campaign.

Semi Ajayi (West Brom, England)

His performance for his team – West Bromich Albion should not be undermined. The Nigerian almost helped his team get all three points against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea team but a late equalizer from Tammy Abraham saw Chelsea pick up one point against the newly promoted team which means West Brom have grabbed just one point from a possible 9.

Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal, Spain)

The Nigerian felt helpless and couldn’t help his team as Barcelona whizzed past Villareal to a whooping 4-0. Samuel was blank and came off in the 76th minutes for Kubo.

Eze Eberechi (Crystal Palace, England)

This youngster started for Crystal Palace against Everton this weekend but couldn’t help his team secure a point as the Merseyside outfit took all three point.

The Nigerian looked like he’s still trying to find his rhythm at the new club as it seemed like he was played out of position whereas he plays as an attacking midfielder but that doesn’t seem like an excuse for his sloppy start but hopefully, he’d gain his balance and prove why he was signed away from his former team.

Josh Maja (Bordeaux, France)

Joshua Maja also failed to find the back of the net this weekend as his team – Bordeaux played a goalless draw from OGC Nice in their French Ligue 1 encounter.

His team are now winless in their last three games securing just 2 points from 9 (2 draws, 1 loss). Maja would be looking forward to have a good weekend as his team hosts Dijon in their 5th Ligue 1 encounter

Some of these players would return into action this midweek, you can back Alex Iwobi to lead Everton into the league cup quarterfinal when they face West Ham tomorrow at the Goodison Park by betting on football on NetBet Nigeria platform.
