Super Bowl LV, the 55th edition of American Football’s biggest event was held on Monday February 8th at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida between the winners of the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference in what promised to be a blockbuster event.
Super Bowl LIV winners, Kansas City Chiefs took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in last year’s Super Bowl at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. The match was quite one-sided as the Buccaneers ran out 31-9 winners against the defending champions.
This year, the Kansas City Chiefs had to navigate their way past Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Denver Broncos in the West Group of the American Football Conference, and proved their pedigree by winning the group and being the only team to make Conference in the American Football Conference.
They went on to face the Cleveland Browns in the Divisional Round, winning by a scoreline of 22-17 to set up a Conference Championship game against the Buffalo Bills, which they duly won 38-24 on the 25th of January 2021, making them Conference Champions in the American Football Conference for a second year running, and putting them into the Super Bowl for a second successive year.
The opponents of the Kansas City Chiefs this year in the Super Bowl will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led by battle hardened veteran, Tom Brady.
The Buccaneers found themselves in the South Group of the National Football Conference with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons, and they finished the group in second place, qualifying for the Wildcard Round, where they defeated the Washington Football Team 31-23.
They then faced the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round, and they won 30-20 on the 18th of January 2021.
As a result of their victory over the Saints, they qualified to face the Green Bay Packers in the Conference Championship game on the 24th of January 2021.
They defeated the Packers 31-26 in the game to set up their place in the Super Bowl LV for the first time since 2003 where they defeated the Oakland Raiders.
Tom Brady successfully led his new team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a fine victory in the Super Bowl, giving him a record-extending 7th Super Bowl title, more than every single franchise in NFL history.
He was also named Super Bowl MVP for a 5th time. The Buccaneers were quite the underdogs, being sixth seed in the NFL.
They became the first team to beat 3 separate Super Bowl MVP Quarterbacks in postseason, as they defeated Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, Aaron Rodgers of the Packers, and Drew Brees of the Saints.
Brady became the first player in NFL history with a 50 pass touchdown in a season for the Super Bowl champions.
He was greatly helped in the Super Bowl match by his fellow former New England Patriots players, Rob Gronkowski, who made six catches for 67 yards and ended up with two scores, Antonio Brown, and Leonard Fournette.
The Bucs’ Super Bowl victory is only their second ever, and their first since 2003.
Brady confirmed after the game to the delight of fans who like betting on football that he’s not done with football, and there is still more to come from him.
