Super Eagles duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Paul Onuachu who is currently top scorer in the whole of Europe stood out on our list of top five Nigerian players from the weekend.
There were spaces for three other players who made the country proud in the respective clubs across Europe.
Some of the players on this list delighted football betting fans over the weekend, hence, the reason for their inclusion.
5. Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City, England)
The combative midfielder is the only player on this list who didn’t score a goal. Wilfred Ndidi played in his first Premier League game since his injury back in September.
Before his injury, he was in top form, in fact, he was deployed in the central defence and played good games before his injury.
Wilfred Ndidi played very well as Leicester City snatched a late 2-1 win against Sheffield United in a Premier League game on Sunday.
His compatriots, Kelechi Iheanacho also played a part in the win at Bramall Lane.
4. Cyriel Dessers (Genk, Belgium)
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers came from the bench to replace his Super Eagles teammate Paul Onuachu to score a goal in Genk’s 4-2 win against Royal Antwerp on Saturday.
Cyriel Dessers who has endured a tough return to his country of birth, shrugged off his struggles to find the back of the net for his 4th league goal of the season in the win that took Genk to the top of the Belgian League table.
3. David Okereke (Club Brugge, Belgium)
David Okereke also came on for another Nigerian player in Dennis Emmanuel to score the only and winning goal for Club Brugge against Truiden.
The goal was just David Okereke’s second league goal of the season for Club Brugge.
In fact, David Okereke who is high in confidence is backing his side to secure a win in Rome against Lazio in their last Champions League group game.
A win for the Belgian champions would book their place in the round of 16 and Okereke believes his side can pull an upset in Italy.
‘I feel good and enjoy the match. Football is not table tennis, it is a sport with 11 players,’ said Okereke on club’s website.
‘Club Brugge is a good team. I am patient and take my chances when I can.
‘I also adapt myself as a player. If the coach asks me to play in a certain position , I can do just that.
‘If you have just won, you will go into the next match with full energy.
‘We have nothing to lose there.
‘We can write a nice story,” he said.
2. Zaidu Sanusi (Porto, Portugal)
Super Eagles rising star Zaidu Sanusi was on target in Porto’s 4-3 win at home against Tondela in a Portuguese League game on Saturday.
Fresh from his top display against Manchester City in the midweek Champions League game, Sanusi scored a beauty as Porto battled to a 4-3 win at the Dragão.
He has now scored for Porto in the Champions League and in the League.
1. Paul Onuachu (Genk, Belgium)
At the moment, there is no striker in the whole of Europe with the amount of League goals scored by the lanky Nigerian this season.
Onuachu scored two goals for his 13th and 14th goals of the season to hand Genk a 4-2 win against Royal Antwerp on Saturday.
With his brace he remains top of the scorer’s chart in Belgium with 14 goals with the nearest player only with 10 goals.
