The 2021/22 French Ligue 1 season is shaping up nicely after two rounds of matches have been completed.
AS Monaco would look to arrest the early days slump by trying to pick up a win on Matchday Three of the new season. Here is our preview of Matchday Three and what to expect.
Brest vs Paris St Germain: PSG made light work of their opponents in the previous rounds despite still missing a raft of stars, including Lionel Messi, Neymar and Sergio Ramos.
Les Parisiens won both games convincingly. Brest, on the other hand, are yet to pick up any win this season, with two draws already played. PSG are very clear favourites to pick up the win in this one, and they have been given 1.23 odds of winning. A Brest win has been set at 10.50 odds, and a draw has been set at 6.75 odds.
AS Monaco vs Lens: Monaco would take on a Lens side that has drawn both of their matches this season. Monaco lost to Lorient last time out and would be looking to get back on track with a win quickly here.
Their worrying form has also seen them lose to Shakhtar Donetsk at home in the final round of UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
They remain favourites to pick up the win, with 1.74 odds on them to win, and Lens getting 4.60 odds of winning the game. A draw has been set at 3.55 odds.
Saint Etienne vs Lille: Champions Lille have had a far from ideal start to the season with one draw and an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Nice in their games so far. They have a chance to improve on their record when they face Saint Etienne on matchday three.
Saint Etienne has picked up two draws so far this season, so another draw may be on the cards, and it has been given 3.10 odds of happening. A win for Saint Etienne has been set at 3.10 odds and a win for Lille has been set at 2.35 odds.
Lyon vs Clermont Foot: Surprise early-season second-place team Clermont Foot would take on anĀ Olympique Lyon side that was embarrassed by Angers on matchday two.
The newly-promoted side have won both of their games so far this season to sit in second place, above PSG. Lyon would look to get the better of them using their wealth of experience and quality across the pitch.
They are favourites to get the win and have been given 1.57 odds. A Clermont win has been set at 5.50 odds and a draw has been set at 4.05 odds.
Bordeaux vs Angers: Bordeaux will take on league leaders Angers in their own matchday three encounter. The home side are yet to win a single game this season, with their matchday two draw against Olympique Marseille the only point they have picked up so far. Angers hammered Lyon 3-0 on matchday two, and may not be pushovers this season. The match is expected to be a close contest, and Bordeaux has been given 2.80 odds of winning. Angers has gotten 2.50 odds of winning, and a draw has been pegged at 3.20 odds.
Metz vs Reims: Reims, with draws in their first two matches of the season, will take on Metz on matchday three. Metz drew their opener before falling to defeat against Nantes on matchday two of the season. Reims are slightly less favoured to win the game, and have been given 3.45 odds of winning. A win for Metz has been set at 2.30 odds, and a draw has been set at 2.85 odds.
Montpellier vs Lorient: Montpellier will take on Lorient on matchday three. The home side have picked up just one point this season, with Lorient’s tally of four points putting them in seventh place on the league standings. Early season form may not be important as Montpellier are regarded as favourites to win the game. They have been given 2.20 odds of picking up all three points, and their opponents have been given 3.40 odds of winning. A draw between the sides has been pegged at 3.15 odds.
Strasbourg vs Troyes: The league’s bottom sides will lock horns in their matchday three encounter. Strasbourg and newly-promoted Troyes have both lost their first two matches of the season, and would be looking to pick up their first points when they face each other. Strasbourg are favourites to win this one and have been given 2.05 odds of winning. A draw has been set at 3.30 odds and a Troyes win has been set at 3.65 odds.
Rennes vs Nantes: High-flying Nantes held Monaco to a draw and defeated Metz in their second game. They would be facing a Rennes outfit that has only drawn both of its games this season so far. The match promises to be a close contest between two sides that are not far from each other in terms of quality. Nantes are the underdogs here and have been given 4.10 odds of winning the game. A Rennes win has been set at 1.83 odds, and a draw has been set at 3.55 odds.
Nice vs Marseille: Ligue 1 fans still struggle to believe how easily Nice dismantled Lille on matchday two. They would be facing another quality side in Olympique Marseille. Marseille have picked up four points from their opening two games, same as Nice. Their match promises to be one of the matches of the week in France. There are no favourites here, as both sides have received similar odds of winning. Nice has been given 2.70 odds of claiming a win, and Marseille has been given 2.60 odds of winning the game. A draw has been set at 3.20 odds.
