Our expert tipster has cast their eye over this week’s German fixtures and has picked a treble that could make you a few quid to ease you into the week!
It’s a considerably less hectic fixture list than usual this weekend in Germany’s top tier, with just the one league game taking place while Cup semi-finals take precedence. In the first match of the weekend Red Bull Leipzig look to book their spot in the final against unfancied Werder Bremen. Then on Saturday evening, it’s a real David and Goliath matchup between second-tier Holstein Kiel and high-flying Borussia Dortmund in a classic cup clash.
There’s no top tier German action on Sunday, and the weekend of games is rounded out on Monday evening by a clash between Mainz and Hertha Berlin.

Werder Bremen to beat RB Leipzig – 8/1
We all saw what happened the last time these two sides faced off, but at 8/1 in a cup semi-final, you always go with the underdogs in this scenario. This match is going to be a whole lot closer than the odds are suggesting. Werder Bremen have, yes, been beaten 4-1 by Leipzig just a couple of weeks ago. But they played each other in December and despite a 2-0 scoreline in favour of this weekend’s favourites, it was quite the competitive game. Werder Bremen are flattering to deceive for a lot of this season, but they have been able to sneak some scalps and there is a chance that they can do so again this time out. Red Bull Leipzig are 4/13 favourites, while Werder Bremen are 8/1 to win within the 90 minutes. If you believe this game will be a draw in normal time, which is a good bet, you can get the draw at 17/4.
Dortmund to win to zero against Holstein Kiel – 4/5
There’s nothing like a giant from the top league facing a lower league side in the semi-finals of the cup. These are the matches you live for as a football fan, but we think this is going to be the end of the road for the Bundesliga 2 team. Kiel have had a pretty favourable set of draws to get them to this point, and we expect the top tier side to have just too much for them in this fixture. We’d love to be proven wrong for the 11/1 upset though!
Mainz to draw with Hertha Berlin – 49/20
We’d have to imagine this match won’t set the heather alight. Last time out, it was a pretty dull 0-0 draw and we reckon give or take a goal or two, this is going to be similar. You could get a huge 31/4 price on a repeat result, if you fancy really boosting your acca.
