All things being equal, the 2020/2021 season of the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL should commence on the 27th day of December 2020.
It was reported in November that the League was going to kickstart on the 6th of December, but that wasn’t so. And after a meeting amongst stakeholders last week, it was announced that the League would get to start on the 27th of December.
The 2019/2020 was abruptly ended after the Nigerian Government imposed a lockdown in the country because of the Coronavirus, and remaining games were not played.
The final table was made through a method of points per game, as you’d see in the below images.
No team was relegated, and there was also no winner, but only teams to represent Nigeria on the Continent, the top 3 teams from the table above.
For the 2020/2021 season, here’s the proposed fixtures for match day 1.

The League Management company and Red Strike TV sealed a partnership deal that will allow followers of the League to able to watch games live here on NPFL.TV.
The chairman of the League Management Company, Shehu Dikko speaking on the deal with Red Strike media said :
“In line with the core objectives of the LMC-Redstrike partnership, which is to repackage and reposition the NPFL as one of the best football leagues on all parameters, Redstrike Group has engaged a reputable and experienced production company from Europe, which will deploy state of the art facilities and other equipment for the television production of matches and activities of the NPFL to meet world class standards.”
Shehu Dikko added that Red Strike media will be working with other domestic agencies that are capable of delivering good contents for the NPFL.
“This will enable the NPFL, in line with the best international benchmarks, to have full control of its content to be distributed, marketed and monetized across all platforms such as OTT, Mobile, Free to Air and Cable TV to ensure the widest coverage that can generate appropriate revenues to the NPFL.”
“The detailed and impressive production preparations have seen the assembling and engagement of very many Nigerians, technicians and other highly skilled football industry professionals.”
For Match day 1 fixtures, some teams won’t be having games at their traditional home grounds, as the LMC had to approve stadiums that would be game fit.
Match day 1 will see some interesting Derby games in Enyimba vs Abia Warriors, Akwa Utd bs Dakkada FC and other big games like Rivers United vs Rangers & Ifeanyi Ubah vs Lobi stars.
These games should provide excitement for the fans to enjoy.
There could be surprises as usual, but the top teams in contention for the League should be Enyimba, Lobi stars, Akwa United, Rivers United, Enugu Rangers, due to the caliber of their managers and club structure.
